Viking Wrestling Club will push your athletes physically and mentally. All the while continuing to help them develop their love for this sport and chase the best version of themselves on and off the mat! Viking Wrestling Club is committed to helping young athletes and families achieve their athletic and life goals through wrestling and other activities.

VIKING WRESTLING CLUB

Viking Wrestling Club is a non-profit organization based in Des Moines, Iowa, dedicated to fostering a passion for wrestling among young athletes. Our mission is to ignite and sustain interest in the sport, provide high-quality training, and help each athlete reach their full potential both on and off the mat.

 

At Viking Wrestling Club, we offer programs for athletes of all skill levels, starting from age 3 or 4. Our “Little Vikes” program is designed for beginners we have two groups within the Little Vikes. First, we have our developmental which is for ages 3-5 to help ensure athletes are prepared motorskills wise and able to focus during training. Secondly our beginner level which is more technique based, both train together side by side, creating a fun and safe environment where young wrestlers can develop essential motor skills, learn basic wrestling techniques, and cultivate respect and discipline. For our “Elite” athletes, who are at the intermediate and advanced levels, we provide specialized training that focuses on refining advanced wrestling techniques, building strength, and enhancing conditioning.

 

Our year-round training program covers all three wrestling styles: Folkstyle, Freestyle, and Greco-Roman, ensuring that athletes receive comprehensive development in the sport. Our experienced coaches are committed to guiding each wrestler toward excellence, both in competition and in life.

 

Viking Wrestling Club is an AAU and USA Wrestling sanctioned club, providing insurance coverage for all participants. Please note that an AAU or USA Wrestling card is required for registration.

Grant Henderson

Director & Elite Head Coach

Coach Henderson is an Iowa native and competed at Grand View University collegiately. Full time he serves as assistant coach for Grand View University. Coach is one for details and hammering home the importance of fixing the smallest errors in our drilling. He oversees our Elite & Little Vikes programs. Prior to being hired at Grand View he was the Director of Eastern Iowa Wrestling Club.

Ty Harris

Elite Coach

Coach Ty has helped VWC grow substantially these past couple of years. He is a great leader on and off the mat. Ty wrapped up his academic career by graduating from Grand View University in 2022 and has accepted a job in the area.

Gabe Lewis

Elite Coach

Coach Gabe has been a huge part of the VWC for a few years. He has overcome a lot of setbacks in his wrestling career steming from injuries but his wrestling IQ is through the roof. He does an amazing job connecting with our athletes and helping them chase their goals.

Paul Reedy

Little Vikes Director & Global Executive Manager

Prior to Grand View, Coach Reedy coached at Perry High School and Wartburg College. As an athlete, Reedy was a member of three national championship teams. Additionally, he was part of three state championship teams at Emmetsburg High School.

Coach Henderson when asked about Coach Reedy stated, "Plain and simple he is one of the best. Truly an amazing person and one heck of a coach!"

Coach Mitchell had this to say about Reedy: “In my opinion, Coach Reedy is one of the top assistants in the nation. The impact he has had on our program speaks for itself. His passion for helping athletes on and off the mat is unmatched.”
 

Aden Reeves

Little Vikes Head Coach

Aden is our new head coach for the coming season. We are super excited for Aden to come on board. Aden is a highly decorated wrestler in his own right and has continued to be impressive in his coaching ability. We believe Aden will help lead Little Vikes in the right direction and help these athletes grow on and off the mat.

Jack Ervien

Little Vikes Coach

Jack is a Greco Junior World Team Member in 2019. 4X State place winner in Washington (2nd, 3rd, 7th, 8th). Jack is a very talented wrestler but also a great mentor for our Little Vikes off the mat as well. â€‹
